Do you want to know how much money you can make with a Pet Waste Removal Business?
Do you ever endlessly scroll on your phone watching different kinds of side hustle or business videos because you’re tired of working for someone else?
Â
Do you constantly tell yourself that you’re going to start a business for yourself but never do it?
Â
I was in that exact same spot in december of 2020.
Â
Up until that point, i was thinking about starting a pet waste removal business for over a year but i had too many irrational thoughts preventing me from starting.
Â
From the worry of committing to something and failing to the worry of judgment from my friends and family, you can insert whatever excuse here on why i didn’t have the courage to start my own business.
Â
But one day after talking to one of my neighbors about his lawn care business, I decided to bet on myself by making a facebook business page for my own pet waste removal business.
Â
I tracked the 383 scoops i did in 2021 and by the end of this video i will share how much i made in one entire year of poop scooping and how much it cost me to run this kind of business as a side hustle.
Â
I mentioned in previous blogs that it really does take around $65 to buy what you need in order to start a pet waste removal business.
Â
In order to file i spent $22 getting my business name registered, $9.99 for a virtual mailbox for my business address and another $25 to notarize these documents.
Â
In december 2020 i was introduced to the concept of frozen poop on the ground.
Â
This caused me to buy a variety of rakes and pooper scoopers to figure out what worked best:
Â
- from plastic flat scrapers
- to large plastic claws
- and then eventually some decent metal rakes
Â
I spent $94.34 until i was happy with my scooping equipment!
Â
Do yourself a favor and only buy a metal rake when you’re starting out because it will help for the winter months when everything is frozen.
Â
I also spent $29.96 buying 13 gallon plastic bags in bulk as well as another $17.88 buying large black trash bags in order to double bag my waste, which may be mandatory in the cities you plan to service.
Â
Another $13.98 cents went to bleach to clean my equipment, $15.65 cents for paper towels, $16.82 for plastic gloves and $6.98 for face masks.
Â
This may seem like a lot to start out but i didn’t buy everything all at once!
Â
I would save whatever money i was making with my scoops and reinvested back into my business buying whatever i needed.
Â
The biggest expense i had during december and January were my facebook ad campaigns that i paid for in order to promote my business.
Â
I spent around $115.88 in december and $100 in january on facebook advertisements to get my business in front of as many people as i could afford.
Â
Quick side note i unfortunately did not track any of my miles or my gas usage during the year.
Â
Since i will need to estimate how much i spent on gas each month take that specific cost with a grain of salt it will definitely fluctuate depending
Â
- on how often you’re driving
- how far you drive on your routes
- and the kind of vehicle you drive.
Â
Including the gas from all the driving by the end of January 2021 i spent around $557.65 on my pet waste removal business.
Â
This resulted in a total of 16 scooping appointments in my first month which got me $565 for my scoops!
Â
I’m up seven dollars and 35 cents and i feel like a rock star!
Â
In February 2021 i decided to triple the amount i was spending on facebook ads up to $300 along with another $80 on gas for the month.
Â
I only landed 10 appointments in February which resulted in another $540 in Pooper Scooper Business income.
Â
I’m now up another $240 and starting to feel hopeful about my poop scooping business.
Â
It also happened to snow in February which is one of the best things that can happen for a pet waste removal business!
Â
You will find that the late winter – early spring time of the year is the most lucrative for this kind of business as many dog owners will have an entire winter’s worth of poop on the ground once everything starts to thaw and melt.
Â
Because of how much i advertised in February i had so many people reach out to me for scooping services that i did not need to advertise on facebook in march 2021.
Â
I landed 20 winter cleanups in march and made $1, 120 which is more than double the amount i made in January and February combined while i only spent $173.14 mostly on gas buying bleach and a new bucket.
Â
By this time i started finding a groove with my business!
Â
I had a few weekly clients at this point and i committed to spend at least $200 a month on facebook advertisements as part of my budget.
Â
I also restocked on a bunch of supplies and a tripod and spent $408.68 in April 2021.
Â
The spring rush was slowing down for me so i only landed 16 scooping appointments and made $525, up another $116.32.
Â
In May, June and July, i saw one of the biggest growths with my pet waste removal business.
Â
Despite taking a break from facebook advertisements and spending only $200 on ads in June, i still had people reaching out to me to request scooping services because of word of mouth and posting before and after pictures on my facebook page.
Â
Who knew people wanted a clean yard for the summer time?
Â
I also decided to buy business insurance and spend $175.44 for yearly coverage.
Â
In May i spent $152.19 to make $1,250 with 39 appointments and in June i spent $383.68 to make $925 dollars with 34 appointments in Pooper Scooper Business Income.
Â
July 2021 i started my youtube channel and began documenting all of my scoops to show how much money you can potentially make with a pet waste removal business.
Â
Along with the business insurance and some of the things i bought to help with my youtube videos i spent $449.73 in July and made $1535 with 38 scooping appointments!
Â
August, September and October was an interesting time period.
Â
I restocked on supplies in august and spent at least $200 each month on facebook ads.
Â
I lost a few weekly clients and business was starting to slow down so i only made $1,017 and $1073.95 in September in Pooper Scooper Business Income.
Â
However i landed several of my biggest weekly clients in October which helped push me to $1,697 for that month even though my expenses were remaining stable.
Â
For both November and december i decided to stop facebook ads as i had other competing priorities in my life i wanted to focus on along with my youtube channel.
Â
Since i didn’t spend any money on ads in November my biggest expense was the gas used as well as the new tripod i bought to record my scoops for a total of $241.08.
Â
In November i made $1,330 with 49 scooping appointments without any facebook ads.
Â
In december i may have gone a little crazy splurging on my business for the sake of lowering my tax liability.
Â
I restocked on all of my supplies and bought new equipment like a pair of GT 3070 Cultivator Rakes, disposable shoe covers as well as ergonomic support handles for both my dustpan and my rakes.
Â
It was really cold during december so i also bought myself winter clothing like my hat and my winter gloves that allows me to still text while wearing them.
Â
The biggest expenses in December were items i bought to help me future proof and grow my business in the coming year, mostly in the Wysiwash System that is a new add-on service i plan on implementing alongside my scooping services as well as my microphone shock mount, pop filter, and boom arm to help elevate my youtube videos and video advertisements i make on facebook to the next level.

Â
That brought my expenses in december to $985.02 which was the most i ever spent on my pet waste removal business.
Â
I am hoping these purchases will help in the coming weeks once i file taxes and i’ll report back with my findings.
Â
In December it actually snowed quite a bit in the last two weeks of the month and there were some clients that asked me to reschedule or come back to them at the beginning of the year.
Â
Even with the snow i completed 48 scoops and made $1,575!
Â
My total expenses for my pet waste removal business in 2021 came to $5,056.77 give or take a few hundred dollars because of gas usage!
Â

Â
My Pooper Scooper Business Income in 2021 came to $13,132.95!
Â

Â
My net profit and my first year scooping came to $8,076.16Â and that’s something i’m proud of!
Â
What am i going to do now?
Â
I’m going to take another chance on myself and stake my claim!
Â
I’m throwing down the gauntlet and declaring that i will aim to double my business in 2022!
Â
My goal this year is to get to $26,300 in income with
Â
- my scoops
- new services i plan on introducing
- as well as expanding into more commercial clients instead of only residential homes.
Â
This means i will need to bring in at least $2,189 each month to make this goal!

And As Always, Acknowledge The Now. Bye!

I’ve been trying to get started with my own pet waste business. I’ve put flyers out but beyond that what do u recommend to get first customers?
Hi Rhonda, I would recommend posting in free Facebook Community groups advertising your services and talking about the benefits of hiring a pooper scooper. You’ll also want to create your Google Business Profile as people will be looking online “pooper scooper services near me” and if you don’t have a Google Business profile it will be really hard to find you online.
I am starting this business, but I am adding cat litter box 3,5,7 day cat litter box replacement. If I go hard on marketing what would be a realistic expectation for my first month?
It would depend on how much you’re spending on your marketing and your ability to target the audience you want to serve
How would I price the first week or month with just 1 customer for an example
It depends on your area and if you’re hauling the waste away but I always recommend aiming for at least $1.50 a minute including drive time
