How I Made $10,000 in 3 Months with my Dog Poop Removal Business

It's my second year as a Professional Pooper Scooper and the last few months have been a whirlwind.

I did more than 360 scooping appointments between January and March and I’m going to break down exactly how much I spent on my business and what my Pooper Scooper business income is.

My goal this year is to get to $26,300 with my scoops, which would be double the amount I made last year. This means that I will need to bring in at least $2,189 each month to make this goal. How am I tracking along?

Since I spent a lot of money buying supplies in December 2021 to prep for the new year, most of the expenses I had in January came from my marketing and gas usage. I spent $600 on Facebook Ads and $5 on Google ads, along with an estimated $250 in gas driving between my client’s houses. I still have my virtual mailbox, which is a $9.99 charge each month. I ended up buying several domains to use for websites, which is another $12.86 each month.

The biggest expenses I had for my Pet Waste Removal Business were the investments I made in technology to take my business to the next level. I bought myself an annual subscription to Jobber to help me automate my business processes and keep track of my growing list of clients I’m scooping after. Right now, I spend $119.48 a month on Jobber. I also bought an annual subscription to NiceJob to kick start how my customer’s leave reviews for my Pet Waste Removal Business and to also get my website built by them. I spent $402.99 with NiceJob for their services in January.

With the 88 scooping appointments I completed in January, I made $2958.50, minus the transaction fees Jobber takes for processing payments for you. Since I’m using the Connect Plan with Jobber, they take 2.9% + .30 cents of the transaction, which was an additional $90.83 in fees I paid in January. This resulted in a total of $1,540.15 spent January 2021. Jobber also has a tip feature where your customers can add on a small tip to the final invoice, similar to how restaurants ask you if you want to leave 10-20% as a tip to the waiter. With tips, that added an extra $173 in January, for a total of $3,131.50 in Pooper Scooper Business income.

The end of January and the beginning of February brought a lot of snow. This temporarily impacted my Pet Waste Removal Business, as many yards were covered and you couldn’t realistically do a proper cleaning for new clients. I still continued with my weekly service customers, even if I only picked up 1-2 piles. As long as it was safe to drive, I made the effort to show up and keep the commitment to my clients to clean up their yard. Once the snow started to melt though, business began to pick up again.

In February, I spent $529 on Facebook Ads, $231.12 on Google Ads, estimating $250 on gas, $119.48 for my subscription with Jobber, along with $130.12 in transaction fees.

My NiceJob monthly subscription after they built my website is $174.00, as well as what I paid for my Google Domains and Virtual mailbox.

My expenses for February ended at $1,470.55, which is less than I spent in January. This resulted in 89 scooping appointments, and I made $3,889.25, and $245.13 with tips for a total of $4,134.39 in Pooper Scooper Business Income.

At this point, this was the most I’ve ever made in a single month with my Pet Waste Removal Business. And then, the floodgates opened and spring rush was upon me.

Because I knew this could potentially be the busiest time of the year for my business, I spent $850.47 on Facebook Ads, and $357.27 on Google Ads directing people to my website to sign up for a quote. I had significantly more customers in March so I bumped my estimated gas to $300. My monthly expenses stayed the same, and I paid $227.80 in transaction fees.

In March, I spent $2,051.87, with more than half of those expenses going into advertising. Because of how aggressive I was with my marketing, I completed 149 scooping appointments and made $6,819.98 along with an additional $463.26 with tips For a total of $7,283.24 in March.
